The Ridge School was established in 1959 by 24 foreign companies that sought to educate the children of their employees after the closure of the British Army School. These companies became the debenture holders of the School. Originally registered as ‘The Ridge School (1959)’. It became necessary to re-register the school in 1966, after the coup d’etat which overthrew the government of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Hence the school is now known as The Ridge School (1966).

Originally, the school offered primary education only, but a Kindergarten (KG) was added in 1980, a Junior High Section in 1991 and a Senior High School in 2017. The age range is from 4 years (KG) to approximately 19 years (SHS 3 or A’ Level).
